Pearl Harbor: The Movie and the Moment – Hardcover Book

Posted on February 20, 2012 in Pearl Harbor

Adventures Into Mystery posted a photo: Available Now: Pearl Harbor: The Movie and the Moment Hardcover aimcollectibles.blogspot.com/2011/11/pearl-harbor-movie-a... As the title portends, this extravagantly illustrated book has more to do with the recently released movie than with the historical event. Still, its plethora of full-page color photos will prove irresistible to both budding directors and historians. Following a preface by the movie's producer, director, and scriptwriter (and several obligatory pages on the cast), the book devotes the next three parts to an overview of America and Pearl Harbor before, during, and after the bombing raid. The broadly informative text is supplemented by sidebars, a time line of events of December 7, 1941, and illustrations showing how many of these events are depicted in the movie. The final section deals strictly with the creation of the film, explaining how the makers handled stunts and both aerial and underwater shooting. Quotes from the film's participants reveal how period costuming, weaponry, and various aspects of the attack-including the rollover of the battleship Oklahoma-were re-created. Air raid reports from the 1930s

Posted on February 20, 2012 in Appeasement

Air raid reports from the 1930s Three short news reports (not from the same newsreel) that highlight the way that destruction from the air became a new and terrifying fear for people in the 1930s. In Britain especially air raids were feared as impossible to prevent and defend against and likely to cause massive casualties. This could help explain the reasons for the adoption of a policy of appeasement by the British in the 1930s. As Baldwin said, 'the bomber will always get through.' 1. Mussolini and Abyssinia, 2. Zynga Stock Scandal: Is It Ready to Go Public?

Posted on February 15, 2012 in Zynga Ipo

Zynga Stock Scandal: Is It Ready to Go Public? BY ADAM FALK Is Zynga playing games with employees' stock? The Wall Street Journal reported Thursday, the gaming group is demanding certain employees surrender some of their shares or face being fired. WSJ's Shayndi Rice reports from Silcon Valley explaining Zynga CEO Mark Pincus' reported plan. SHAYNDI RICE: "He created a list that he called his 'MIA List.' And that referred to employees that had a very large amount of equity but also that he felt were not contributing their fair share to the company. ... some people said, 'OK, we'll renegotiate the equity.' And some people left." The problem is stock is how startups entice employees. The idea: Join us and you'll be rewarded when we go public. So, lose shares, lose money later. Following The Wall Street Journal report, Pincus sent a note to employees dismissing the story and saying Zynga is and has always been a meritocracy. The New York Times' Dealbook has the statement... "'The Wall Wtreet Journal posted a story last night (copied below) which paints our meritocracy in a false and skewed light. The story is based on hearsay and innuendo which is disappointing but is to be expected as we move towards becoming a public company.'" Fortune blogger said WSJ's facts were correct, but its interpretation is all wrong. From Regional to Global Players: The Emergence of Asian Firms in the Global Economy

Posted on February 09, 2012 in South Korea

From Regional to Global Players: The Emergence of Asian Firms in the Global Economy Speaker(s): Professor Henry Wai-chung Yeung Recorded on 26 January 2012 in Hong Kong Theatre, Clement House. In this lecture, Henry Wai-chung Yeung will aim to explain how a number of leading business firms from Asian newly industrialized economies (NIEs) of Hong Kong, Singapore, South Korea, and Taiwan are articulated into global production networks and become major players in their respective market niches. Drawing upon a triangular analytical framework and original empirical data, he will seek to explain the complex relationships between the dynamic articulation of these leading Asian firms into different global production networks and their simultaneous upgrading from typical followers to market leaders. He will argue that the interplay between corporate strategies and home base advantages within the context of changing global production networks can offer a better explanation of the differentiated competitive outcomes of these Asian firms. He will conclude the lecture with some implications for theory and policy in relation to corporate development in Asian economies. Born in Guangzhou, China, Henry Wai-chung Yeung emigrated with my family to Hong Kong in 1979 moving to Singapore in 1988. He graduated with BA First Class Honours in Geography from the National University of Singapore and obtained his Ph.D. from the School of Geography, University of Manchester in England in 1995, returning to Singapore to start his career at the Department of Geography, National ... From: lsewebsite Views: 19 2 ratings Time: 01:16:06 More in Education
